Picture
Shelby Carver is a graduate student in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Southern New Hampshire University, driven by a deep passion for human connection and advocacy. She works with clients ages 13 and up from all cultural backgrounds, supporting them through challenges such as trauma, anxiety, grief, stress, and LGBTQIA+ issues.
Rooted in person-centered and cultural relational therapy, Shelby offers a safe and compassionate space where clients can explore their stories and find strength at their own pace. She values walking alongside each person as a trusted companion, witnessing growth and resilience bloom over time.
A queer native of Lewiston, Maine, Shelby finds balance and inspiration hiking forest trails, swimming in quiet waters, and sharing her life with rescue dogs and family, embracing both the calm and the beautiful complexities of life.

Shelby's Counseling Philosophy

Shelby takes a warm, collaborative, and relational approach to counseling, grounded in Relational-Cultural Theory. She believes that healing happens through connection and that the therapeutic relationship can be a powerful space for growth, authenticity, and mutual respect. Drawing from person-centered, strengths-based, and trauma-informed practices, Shelby creates a safe and inclusive environment where clients from all backgrounds feel seen, heard, and valued. Her work is deeply informed by an awareness of cultural context, identity, and the impact of systemic stress.
She works alongside clients to gently explore the patterns, relationships, and beliefs that shape their experiences. Whether supporting someone through anxiety, life transitions, identity exploration, or grief, she empowers clients to reconnect with their inner strength and move toward meaningful change. Shelby approaches each client with compassion and curiosity, honoring their capacity to grow and find meaning on their own terms.
