Rachel Larrivee LMT, CYT, RP (She/Her) With heart and intention, Rachel contributes her unique light to The Canvas of Life Counseling’s integrative healing collective.
Rachel graduated summe cum laude with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies in Writing, Social Justice, and Cultural Criticism. While attending the University of Maine at Augusta, Rachel served multiple semesters as teaching assistant for the popular nursing program elective, NUR 330: Integrative Healing Yoga: Theory, Philosophy and Practice for Individuals and Healthcare Providers. For her Capstone, Rachel had the privilege of editing the book Demystifying American Yoga: Embodied Movement for Individual and Collective Transformation written by Professor Sarah Hentges, PhD, and published by McFarland & Company Publishers in January of 2025.
Re-examining the art of yoga and somatic movement through the lens of academia deeply impacted Rachel’s approach to teaching. Her teaching philosophy revolves around her commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and trauma-sensitive experience for students of all bodies, genders and skill levels. Her classes are non-denominational with emphasis on appreciation not appropriation, with respect to the fundamental ancient cultures in which these therapeutic practices are rooted. Currently, Rachel is undergoing the Advanced Training Program in Mind-Body Medicine, through the renown Center for Mind-Body Medicine and hosted by the Maine Resiliency Center of Lewiston. This small-group model is included as a trauma treatment program for adults and caregivers who have experienced psychological trauma, and/or suffer from depression, anxiety, stress, or chronic illness. After completing this program in early June, Rachel will be equipped to facilitate stress management and resilience building skills in the context of small, supportive groups, using scientific and evidence-based somatic practices such as movement, breathwork, art, and other expressive techniques.
