Lynn Walkiewicz LMSW-CC (She/Her) As an integral part of The Canvas of Life Counseling's clinical group, Lynn brings light, laughter, and genuine care to every corner of the practice and every person she meets.
Lynn is a conditionally Licensed Master Social Worker completing her final year in clinical residency at The Canvas of Life Counseling, LLC. In addition to her Master’s in Social Work (Tulane, 2022), she holds a Master’s in Disaster Resilience (Tulane, 2023) and a Ph.D. in Philosophy (Bowling Green State University, 1994). With over 30 years of experience in cultural competency work, Lynn brings a deep understanding of intersectionality and the impact of social “isms” on individual well-being. Lynn specializes in working with adults navigating trauma, including first responders, survivors of intimate partner violence, those living with PTSD, and individuals grieving deaths by suicide or other profound losses. She also supports clients through complex life transitions involving identity, caregiving, relationships, and aging. Her work is grounded in a trauma-informed, socially conscious, and inclusive framework that affirms neurodiversity and LGBTQ+ identities. Drawing from her background in philosophy, Lynn approaches therapy with a depth-oriented lens, inviting clients to explore the foundations of their belief systems, how they create meaning, and what gives their life direction. She is especially well-suited to work with individuals who are ready to engage in thoughtful self-reflection, explore deeper patterns, and participate in meaningful conversations about their experiences. Her approach is collaborative and insight-driven, making her a strong fit for those who are curious, introspective, and open to examining the “why” behind their emotions and behaviors. Lynn’s clients often describe her as deeply compassionate, steady, and thoughtful. She is committed to helping people find clarity, cultivate resilience, and move forward with greater confidence and self-awareness.
Lynn's Counseling Philosophy
Lynn’s counseling philosophy strongly influences her work with clients. Lynn believes that a safe space is one that invites growth and recovery at any stage of life. Her integrated counseling approach incorporates aspects of humanistic, relational, and cognitive behavioral theories. She believes that all individuals strive to live their most authentic lives. She is passionate about helping clients find their way through individual and social issues by encouraging empowerment and resilience. Also, she believes that core values identification and critical thinking are integral parts of therapy in creating positive outcomes in one’s life. Lynn provides a person-centered foundation where the client chooses their own healing path and defines the steps and pace that makes the most sense to them. Lynn guides and supports individuals in creating the building blocks they need to navigate through their healing journey’s. Her motto is, “I can hold your hand in the dark and scary places that we all have.” She supports clients in looking at issues through both a micro (about you) framework, and a macro (social structures) framework. She has found that what many believe are individual issues are caused, in part, by the larger social framework showing that none of us are as alone as we may sometimes believe. Lynn’s trauma-informed methods include internalized family systems (IFS), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and strengths-based therapy. Lynn will help clients work through shame, guilt, trauma, grief, and anxiety. Also, she supports individuals dealing with substance use, ADHD, domestic violence, and disasters.
I feel much stronger, more confident, and less anxious since I started sessions with Lynn Walkiewicz 10 months ago. I attribute my progress to her skills as a clinician and my enthusiasm for working with her. She is amazing! The questions she asks have guided me toward valuable inner explorations and discoveries. Our discussions are always productive. I have much to think about between sessions. In June, I experienced a significant personal loss. My sessions with Lynn have been incredibly helpful in understanding and processing my grief. Without her wise counsel, I am certain I would not be in such a good place now. I am on a positive path in my life, and I am truly grateful for Lynn's guidance. Together, we have accomplished a great deal, and I look forward to further growth with Lynn as my counselor. I have met with several counselors over the past 40 years, and she is among the best I’ve worked with. I would recommend her without hesitation. ~SB
